should i get my son a battery operated or gas powered RC?

he is 5, and he wants a big monster truck remote control car.I have seen some nice battery operated ones and the gas ones are about 2 times the price, the guy at the store says that the battery ones I am looking at are pretty fast and all a 5 YO would need.Seems easier to stick a bit of gas in the little tank then always switching batteries and recharging them?
anyone have experience with these?
