Autonomous Attack Tank – Navigation Demo
![]() |
This video is a demonstration of its basic navigation functionalities as it avoids the balloons. The video cuts short of before it shoots the last balloon because it seemed like the gun wasn’t attached so I stopped the camera to check it and needless to say right after that it shot the heck out of the balloon. This is part of my senior design project. We modified a remote control tank to drive by itself and identify color blobs on camera and then subsequently shooting the color blobs with the airsoft pellet gun we equiped it with. Project is for Professor Hamblen’s ECE 4006 class part of the Electical and Computer Engineering Department at Georgia Tech The tank is controlled by an Altera UP3 development board running custom hardware as well as a synthesized Nios II processor. we didn’t have the time to make it fast. we spent most of the time developing the hardware and software to power and steer the tank, as well its targeting algorithms. furthermore, the tank is based on an RC tank, and was not easily modular to swap out motors or gearing to make it faster. but mostly the former reason, it just wasn’t the priority of the project.
HOLY CRAP,just wondering why is it slow?
cool, I had to do much the same thing for my final year robotics project. But we had to score a goal after driving through a maze. Tanks shooting ballons is much better.
well, youre right, it is a tank but tanks arent slow. they have to be fast. like the m1 abrams tank…
shit sorry man i just finished watching/commenting this when i scrolled down and saw the one where it shoots balloons.
Too bad it doesnt shoot at the balloons.
yeah
well, its a tank…the main part of the project was the system as a whole and the systems and controls, the mechanical part we purchased as an RC tank. the tank when we bought it was that slow. and noisy. ridiculously noisy.
kinda slow don’t ya think lol.
